BWI PAID PARKING NOTICE 3/15/24

Despite our best efforts, we have received no new information from the City as of today.  Please check back on April 1, 2024 for the next update and review once again the information below.

BWI PAID PARKING NOTICE 1/15/2024

To our Bluewater Inn Guests:

As many of you know, parking at the beach can be both busy and a challenge during the summer season. For over 25 years we have always strived to do our best to provide free parking for our guests despite the premium location of the hotel.

The City of Grand Haven is now planning on implementing paid parking along the waterfront districts from the beach to the city marina and the farmers market downtown starting:

*May 1, 2024 through October 31, 2024.

*From 9am-9pm.

*Seven days a week.

*Suggested rates are $2.50 per hour for the months of June, July, August, September

(12 hours x $2.50=$30 per day)

*$1.50 per hour for the months of May and October

(12 hours x $1.50=$18 per day)

*9pm-9am (overnight) is no charge

This change appears to affect the parking spots directly in front of the hotel and across the street.

We are suggesting the following solution(s) to help keep your parking costs lower

*If you are a Michigan resident purchase the $14 Recreation Passport when you register your vehicle this year. It is good for 1 full year and allows free access and parking to all of Michigan’s 103 State Parks and 142 Campgrounds including Grand Haven State Park

*If you are a non-resident, you can purchase the same annual Recreation Passport for $40.00.

The State Park parking lot is generally open from 8am-10pm, 7 days a week.

We suggest you park in the park during the day and on the street at night as you are typically not allowed to park in the State Park overnight.

The Bluewater Inn is in negotiations with the city to try and come up with a better solution, but we have no better alternative that we can point to at this time.

The Bluewater Inn still controls 10-12 parking spots but we have not determined exactly how they will be utilized this summer until we complete negotiations with the city.  There should be no expectation that these spots will be free or first come, first serve as in the past.

The parking area at our “Downtown” building located at 114 Clinton St will not be affected by this proposal.
